Day 1: Auckland–Waitomo Caves (Americas Cup sailing)
You will be met on arrival at Auckland International Airport by your Aroha NZ Tours Representative, and transferred to your accommodation in our luxurious vehicle. Explore the CBD and outer area's of the city, taking in the spectacular harbour views of the Waitemata from Auckland's illustrious waterfront, and through some of the most expensive real estate in NZ. Join others by midday for an unforgettable two hours sailing. Here you have a unique opportunity to participate as crew on an actual America’s Cup yacht. Take the helm, exert energy on the grinders or simply sit back and enjoy the ride as we sail the beautiful Waitemata Harbour. The America’s Cup is the world’s oldest and most prestigious sporting trophy and ultimate yachting regatta. Usually the domain of billionaires and elite professional yachties, NZL 40 and NZL 41 offer the unique opportunity for everyone to participate sailing on these grand prix racing machines. Day 2: Waitomoa Cave (Abseiling iand caving into the Lost World)
drive you to the famous Waitomo Caves. There we have organised a Trip into The Lost World. Abseil (rappel) 100m slowly into the Lost World, secured by your guide who abseils alongside. After the approximately 30 minute decent, you embark on your journey back to the surface though another spectacular dry cavern. The abseil is at least twice the height of any other cave at Waitomo and the beauty of this iconic cavern is unsurpassed. Descend slowly bouncing and turning as the mist filtered light gives unreal qualities to the strange plants and formations. Enjoy an home cooked evening meal at a nearby farm-stay. Day 3: Waitomoa Caves-Bay of Plenty (Helicopter landing and hike at Volcanic White Island)
As you depart the Waitomo your tour will take you through the eastern North Island region of the Bay of Plenty, an area with a consistent mild climate level which is ideal for farming, the Bay of Plenty is also famous for its fruit crops and vineyards. We drive you to your resting point in Welcome bay. This quality accommodation is known for the stunning estuary and panoramic views over the valley. In the afternoon we have arranged a helicopter flight from your accommodation and landing on an active volcano “White Island. Situated 50 kilometres offshore, this active island volcano constantly emits a cloud of steam and periodically erupts to a greater extent expelling volcanic ash several thousand metres into the atmosphere. (This is the most active volcano in New Zealand) The main vent is below sea level and protected by crater walls. You can walk right inside its main crater just above sea level with a minimum of physical effort and without undue risk. This allows you to experience at first hand nature's immense power as gas and steam burst up from far below the Earth's crust. An adventure tour you will not forget for a long time. Day 4: Bay of Plenty–Rotorua -Taupo (River Jet into geothermal area and trout lake fishing on Lake Taupo)
In approximately 1 hour we arrive in Reporoa at the banks of “Waikato” the largest River in New Zealand. Here we take an adrenalin-injecting trip in a “river-jet” boat. We will take you through the magnificent Tutukau Gorge and on to the still quiet and unspoiled Hidden Valley. Walk 'The Hidden Valley', where you step back in time to experience a unique geothermal world. Explore among roaring geysers, hot springs, boiling mud pools, a unique hot water cave, and the largest silica terraces in the world. Today we stay at Lake Taupo, the largest Lake in this country on the way we stop at the Huka Falls - these spectacular falls roar through a 15-m wide chasm before plunging a further 11-m. For dinner we have organised a boat cruise on Lake Taupo, where you can just relax and reflect on the days adventure or catch one of the many rainbow trouts for your evening meal. Day 5: Taupo-Kaimanawa Ragnges-Taihape (Horseback riding in remote area, Maori bush experience)
This takes you on a Māori bush journey back through the ages, as you learn about the land, the history and significance of Māori Kai (food). The area is absolutely amazing to discover on horse back. A team of well trained horses will take you deep into the Kaimanawa. (Some previous riding experience is required) .The day also culminates in a delicious Hangi feast using authentic Māori gathering techniques and cooking methods in this great outdoor wilderness. Incorporating elements of the Native Bush and the Native Kitchen experiences. Your personal guide Tom will share traditional knowledge, legends and stories as the day unfolds.From Tamau Pa you have exclusive access to a magnificent native wilderness. This wilderness has remained unchanged for thousands of years. With unspoilt views and breath-taking natural beauty you can explore the tranquil sub-alpine homeland of the Tuwharetoa Iwi (tribe). Take the opportunity to learn about the flora and fauna, how the Māori utalised it and how they lived from the land and what Nature provided. The area was used as a trading route for centuries before the Europeans arrived as tribes traded seafood and valuable rocks used to make tools and weapons. Discover the region’s significance to its Ngati Tuwharetoa kaitiaki (tribal caretakers) as you walk the land and learn about the legends and history. We drive deep into farming country to the remote Mokai Valley, where the picturesque Rangitikei River meats the rugged Ruahine Ranges. Not far out from your accommodation we take you to the edges of the crystal clear waters of the Rangitikei River set amongst the beautiful native flora and fauna, which provides a stunning and picturesque backdrop that, can be variably appreciated. The host of your accommodation will take you for an evening possum hunt or just enjoy the magnificent backdrop. Accommodation: Mokai Valley
Day 6: Taihape (White Water Rafting in a remote canon and option to bungy jump and experience the largest flying fox in the world)
Relax in the morning, swim in the pool or take a 4wheel drive with the hosts through their farm property. At midday we take you near our accommodation on a 4 hours rafting trip through the gentle rapids and the crystal clear waters of the Rangitikei River. We pass secret waterfalls and unbelievable scenery you will float quietly through Middle Earth (Lord of the Rings) and pass scenes from the Movie. Here you can stop for a fish, a swim or have a picnic. Discover the unspoilt beauty of a remote Cave system, that has not had many human food steps and experience our native glow worms. For our thrill seekers! We can organize instead of a soft rafting experience a 5 grade adventure rafting tour through the same valley. In the evening unwind and relax with a home cooked dinner at this magic place. Just before settle back in your retreat, take a soak in a hot pool, which overlooks this remote valley. Day 7: Taihape–Wellington Ferry–Marlborough Sounds (Sea Fishing in the Sound area)
In the morning we drive via the West Coast of the North Island to the Waikanae region. Before midday we arrive in New Zealand’s capital city, Wellington. Spend your time strolling around the many shops and galleries the city has to offer. Climb aboard the famous Wellington Cable Car which takes you up the steep terraced divide to the luxuriant Botanic Gardens which allows you an overall 360 degree view of Wellington city. We board a Ferry to cross the Cook Strait encounter a glorious world as the ferry enters the Marlborough Sounds, from the Tory Channel into the Queen Charlotte Sound. From Picton, we enter the sun-drenched wine region, New Zealand’s pre-eminent grape-growing area. From here we travel with a water taxi to a small unique remote beach in the Marlborough Sounds. Here you can go sea fishing on a small local boat with a personal fishing guide. Enjoy an evening meal and a local wine at your accommodation. Accommodation: Marlborough Sounds
Day 8: Marlborough Sounds–Abel Tasman Park
This morning you can enjoy a beautiful drive along the bays of Marlborough Sounds, stop and enjoy this spectacular scenery. You will see a region of myriad inlets and bays, with dramatic hills that plunge steeply into the sea. Apples, cherries and classic wine varietal grapes are well suited to the mild climate and sunshine in the Marlborough and Nelson areas. Many vineyards have opened retail and food outlets here; we will take you on a wine tour. Nelson is also known for its vibrant arts and handcrafts scene. 300 Artisans are based in the Nelson area, so it is no wonder that the “One Ring” was created by one of the local jewellers in City Centre. In Richmond you find the Harrington Brewers that brew a special beer for Hobbit on. Accommodation: Abel Tasman
Day 9: Abel Tasman (Kayak/Water taxi/hike in Able Tasman Park)
Starting from Nelson this will be a day of sheer beauty where you have the opportunity to experience nature up close and at its best. You will be transported from Nelson to Marahau the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park. In the first half of the day we will take you kayaking through those calm bays and islands of the southern Abel Tasman. The rest of your day is spent water taxiing to Bark Bay and self walking through to Torrent Bay, the most stunning walk in the Abel Tasman as recommendation by the Lonely Planet travellers bible. Day 10: Able Tasman–Nelson Lakes–Westport (Jet Ski in Buller Gorge)
Today you will spend your midday at an enchanting alpine park of rugged peaks, forests and glacial lakes of the Nelson Lakes. Known for its magical honeydew beech forests, which feed a variety of tuneful nectar-eating native birds, the park provides an easy wilderness escape. After lunch we take you to experience the real New Zealand, the Buller Gorge River. This untamed mighty scenic river is surrounded by natural forests with an alpine outlook. In your own time and speed Jet Ski through magical scenery to the Steeples. Race out on to the Tasman Sea, where you may well have the dolphins for company, and head south along the coastline to where these massive pinnacles of solid rock soar from the seabed. Cruise amongst these towers and experience the magical, almost eerie feeling, before you have to snap out of it and race back to Westport across the sparkling waters. (A real unique New Zealand adventure) From Westport your journey winds its way North through the western slopes of the West Coast. Your tonight’s lodge is south of Karamea, we're an ideal base for exploring all the Northern West Coast has to offer ... from wild bush and beaches to mountains and rivers, the incredible Oparara arches and caves to the renowned Charming Creek Walkway. Day 11: Punakaiki–Glaciers (Hike at Pancake Rocks, Jet boat to White Heron Sanctuary)
Stop at Punakaki the jewel of the West Coast, Punakaiki is world renowned for its pancake rock formation and blowholes. Walk with us along some of the stunning and remote beach treks, though a dense rainforest with Nikau Palms and large ferns. Follow the winding road along one of the most stunning coastal drives in the country. Pass the township of Greymouth and Hokitika; know both for gold and coal mining in New Zealand. After midday take a jet boat ride to a rare white heron sanctuary. The Waitangi Roto Nature Reserve is a sanctuary to most of the bird life that you will see in the South West Heritage Area. The pristine rainforest, predominantly Kahikatea, stands tall, and shos off it's untouched beauty. Your day’s itinerary will end in the tiny settlement Fox Glacier just 25km from Franz Josef Glacier. Both Glaciers are located 25 km from each other and are unique in the world as they seem to nearly reach the ocean. Accommodation: West Coast
Day 12: West Coast–Lake Wanaka (Heli hike to Glacier, walk to remote waterfalls)
In the morning we have organised a Heli-hike half day trip onto Fox Glacier. The area is known for its alpine peaks, snow field, forests, lakes and rivers. An interesting day of scenic opportunities experiencing the untamed beauty of the native New Zealand flora and fauna, with plenty of photo opportunities along the way. This day gives you the opportunity see large crystal clear streams and waterfalls and it also takes you through the South Westland region to one of our World Heritage Parks Mt Aspiring National Park this area is a vast, glacial sculpted wilderness. As you exit Mt Aspiring National Park you will travel through what is known as “The Neck” a formation of land that separates two of our great South Island lakes Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka. Wanaka is a new and modern Alpine resort and mostly visited by us New Zealanders. You will have the afternoon off to enjoy the scenery, go shopping or play golf. Accommodation: Wanaka
Day 13: Wanaka–Siberia Valley (Scenic Flight, hike and jet boat in a remote alpine valley)
Join us for a 4 hour wilderness adventure tour in Mount Aspiring World Heritage National Park. Take a 25 minute unforgettable scenic flight with views of Southern Alps, capturing the rugged beauty of New Zealand's World Heritage National Park. See glaciers, ice, snow, mountain lakes, hanging valleys, vast rain forests, and dramatic unspoiled beauty. Land in the glacially carved Siberia Valley in the middle of the Southern Alps and to begin a 3hr walk through valleys and native beech forest on a well marked track linking the remote Siberia Valley with the wilderness of the Wilkin Valley! What an adventure! And join a 30 minute exciting Jet Boat ride. Your Siberia Experience leaves from Makarora at the head of Lake Wanaka and allows you to enjoy some of New Zealand's untouched scenery from the air, on land and from the water. Accommodation: Wanaka
Day 14: Wanaka–Doubtful Sound (Overnight, kayak in Fiordland National Park)
In the morning we take you passed the Queenstown basin to Lake Manapouri to join an overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound which is located in a World Heritage Area. It is an overwhelming place! You can feel the power of nature here - the remoteness, the wildness and the peace. Known for its wilderness and wild life, Doubtful Sound is the second largest of the 14 fiords in Fiordland National Park and it is three times longer and 10 times larger than Milford Sound. Following a short cruise across beautiful Lake Manapouri and a coach trip over Wilmot Pass, you will board the Fiordland Navigator at Deep Cove, Doubtful Sound. There is plenty of time on your overnight cruise to enjoy the stunning views and to discover the hidden arms of Doubtful Sound. Fur seals and bottlenose dolphins are often seen and at times, rare penguins can be observed. There is also time for you to kayak around the shoreline or go exploring in the tender craft with our nature guide. As the shadows lengthen we’ll drop anchor at a favourite mooring for the night. After the days activities, enjoy a delicious evening buffet meal in the spacious dining saloon. Accommodation: Doubtful Sounds
Day 15: Fiordland National Park–Queenstown (late departure at airport)
This is the Last day of your New Zealand adventure tour. You are leaving the adventure capital of the world and our stunning New Zealand. Your guide will take you back to Queenstown Airport for your departure flight. (2 hour return trip from Te Anau to Queenstown)
